Mineral oil defoamer are chemical additives designed to prevent foam in processing liquids. Widely utilized across various industries and compatible with most industrial processes, mineral oil defoamers are generally safe and easy to use; however it’s essential that proper handling guidelines be observed.

The resultant mixture is easily miscible with alkyl silicone oil and contains fatty acid metal soap, vegetable oil derivatives and hydrophobic silica particles.

Methods of preparing mineral oil defoamer

Mineral oil defoamers are an oil-based foam control agent with strong antifoaming capabilities and cost effectiveness when compared with their silicone and polyether counterparts. They’re widely used across industrial production processes as they effectively prevent foam build-up.

Formulation involves mixing aluminum stearate with various forms of stearate or modified stearate varieties at room temperature in a reaction vessel, before adding white carbon black and an emulsifying agent in sufficient amounts to form a homogenous mixture, before dispersing at high speeds with a high-speed dispersing machine to reach particle sizes between 5-20 um.

Choose suitable silica depending on its composition – both vapor phase and precipitated types are useful, with fumed variety preferably having a specific surface area between 20-500 m2/g for optimal defoammer performance and dispersion capabilities. Furthermore, such fumed type silica has excellent compatibility with different liquids used as defoamers.

Suitable stearate or modified stearate variety

Mineral oil defoamer production involves selecting suitable stearate or modified stearate varieties, which allows for the creation of antifoaming agents with superior dispersing and defoaming effects. The resultant mineral oil defoamer stands out as a novel water defoaming agent with great environmental, safety and performance characteristics; perfecting domestic market products while being easily scaled-up production-scale production.

Mineral oil-based defoamers typically consist of 85-95% mineral oils selected specifically, combined with 1-3% active hydrophobic particles and may include additional components like emulsifiers and preservatives to further increase performance and stability.

At present, the preparation method of mineral oil defoaming agent involves adding mineral oil and other materials to a reaction kettle, heating to melt the mineral oil, mixing with an aluminum bis-fatty acid and dispersing at high-speed with a disperser until particle sizes range between 5-20 um, in order to obtain mineral oil defoamers.

Beneficial effect

Mineral oil defoamer provide superior foam defoaming effects with wide-ranging applications, from water-based liquids and organic solvents, through high temperature liquids to high surface tension liquids like petroleum fuels. By reducing surface tension of the liquid and dismantling stability of bubbles, they prevent new foam formation or aggregates aggregating together – while still remaining easy and low maintenance costs.

Traditional defoamers use mineral oil as their carrier and add toxic materials such as metal soap, fatty acid esters, phosphate compounds and silica to improve defoaming performance. Unfortunately, many of these materials can pollute the environment.

Method of producing mineral oil defoamers includes steps such as gathering materials, adding mineral oil to a reaction kettle, and continuously heating. Once mixed, mixture X must be stirred and cooled down to 80degC before dispersion using high speed dispersing machines at 3000rpm until particle sizes range between 5-20um. Finally, we obtain mineral oil defoamer.

To create mineral oil defoamer, the following steps must be undertaken: 1.) adding white petroleum wax into a reactor.  2.) slowly mixing polylol stearic acid ester , white carbon black  and an emulsifying agent with stirring.  3.) heating until all ingredients have been evenly distributed.  4.)maintaining 45 degree C temperatures for 1 – 2 hours. 5.)Cooling to below 45 DEG C. 6.)Transferring mixture to a sand mill where grinding (1 to 2-millimeter zirconium beads) dispersing and dispersion prior to discharging it as described mineral oil antifoam agent.  7.) After testing and being qualified, promptly discharging as described mineral oil antifoam agent.
